The bimstore bimworld is all about fun!

A sometimes overlooked section here on bimstore is the bimworld’.

We know that there are some amazingly talented content creators out there, and in the past, we’ve seen some pretty awesome BIM components created. The bimworld, which you’ll find located in the manufacturer section, is where we host these great BIM objects that people can download and have a bit of fun with.Past additions to the bimworld have included the popular Star Wars AT-AT and the much loved Hogwarts Express – both of which were created by Alan Moylan who has this week seen another of his fantastic creations added to bimstore.Alan Moylan is a BIM evangelist who comes from a technical detailing background, specialising in the cold rolled steel sector, with over 10 years’ experience of working in the construction industry. Alan has a range of qualifications but is currently undertaking his master’s degree in Advanced Technology with Staffordshire University, through which he has chosen to study BIM Implementation and Management. The newest addition to the bimworld is the Harley-Davidson Fat Boy.

The Harley-Davidson Fat Boy has a 140-millimetre-wide tire in the front and a 200-millimetre tire in the rear, a fat front fork, wide handlebars, and a large headlight. Download your Harley-Davidson Fat Boy now and show us where they appear in your projects! The download includes both the standard Fat Boy a bimstore version.

bimstore spoke to Alan earlier this week to ask him about why he decided to create these components and here’s what he had to say;“I call this, and my other non-building related families, a "fun Revit family", and that name also describes why I make them... I find it fun. My first degree was in computer games design, so I have come from a background where 3D modelling is a fun, fluid and expressive activity, and I wanted to bring that into the BIM world. By creating objects in Revit that the software is not intended to be used for, it allows me to push the boundaries of family creation, see what's possible and learn new aspects of the software's capabilities, as well as it being a learning exercise... all while having fun.”We think that fun is a great reason to great creative and push the boundaries! You can follow Alan or get in touch on Twitter and LinkedIn.

If you think you have a BIM component that should be included in the 'bimworld', just tweet us or drop us a line and we will see if your creations are worthy of a place amongst the elite!
